A normal soduko puzzle is a 9x9
grid which is made up by nine 3x3 sub-grids (regions).
When you start the puzzle there are already some numbers
in the squares. These numbers are called "givens"
and these are used to work out where the other numbers
go.
You must then fill in the remaining empty
cells (one number in each cell) so that every row, every
column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through
9. This means that once the soduko puzzle is complete
every number from 1 to 9 occurs once and only once in
each row, column and 3x3 region.
Its that simple. No maths is needed
to solve the puzzles, its logic and logic alone.
The difficulty of puzzles varies and rather surprisingly,
the number of "givens" has little bearing
on a puzzle's difficulty. Easy puzzles can often be
solved in less than 10 minutes, whereas very difficult
ones can take a lot longer.
